MOLLER AEROBOT© TO INSPECT CALIFORNIA BRIDGES
Aerial Robot Contract Awarded to Moller International

Davis, CA – November 5, 2001. Moller International announced today that the University of California, Davis acting on behalf of the California Department of Transportation (CALTRANS) placed an order for an Aerial Robot. Under a current program the University acquires innovative technology and applies it to outstanding productivity or technical challenges facing State government. Following a previously successful demonstration of a prototype, the Aerobot© is being built to perform bridge structure inspections, thereby reducing the risk to personnel and time required for this task with the current physical inspection techniques. The contract dated 10 October 2001 is valued at more than $300,000 with milestones and deliverables over the next 18 months.

The Aerobot© is a small, two-foot diameter vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) flying robot capable of carrying cameras and other sensor packages over and around large structures. In the electric version ordered by CALTRANS, the Aerobot© will carry a video camera and be linked to the ground via a communications cable. It will allow operators to quickly use the on-board TV camera to inspect the structure, flying from point to point and without the need to have an inspector climb under or around the bridge's structure.

Moller International has been producing Aerobot© for over eight years and holds patents on several related key technologies. Larger, more powerful versions of the Aerobot© have been delivered to the US military for test and evaluation.
